On Friday December 6th, 2019, Ed Jackson released a new track on Spotify, Apple Music and national radio. "So Much More", is a follow up to his 2017 track "These Two Boys", and marks a new direction in his sound as he pivots into country music with a track that quietly steals its way into your heart.
"So Much More" sees Ed Jackson take a detour from his indie-folk roots to a more country sound. Raw, honest vocals at the center of the mix are layered with the unmissable country sounds of acoustic and slide guitar, double bass and cello. “Country music expresses a truthfulness for life in a way words cannot,” explains Jackson, “and we felt venturing into this new genre for us was the most authentic way to bring the story to life.”
Originally from the NSW mid-north coast, Ed Jackson now resides in Sydney Australia's inner west and is a regular feature on the live music circuit with his music being broadcast on radio stations around Australia
Ed Jackson is known for his ability to take introspection and transform his emotion into song, and "So Much More" continues to explore the promise and pain of love. “This is a very personal song for me,” says Jackson. “I’ve been contemplating the importance of family, and looking towards a future where I can spend more time with my kids, enjoying the simple, but magical, moments of life.”
Ed Jackson’s new single, "So Much More", presents a contemplative journey, that is at times melancholy but leaves us with an uplifting hope and happiness. It released when family is ever-present in our hearts and minds during the Christmas and the New Year period.
So Much More was recorded and engineered by Alexie Pigot Music Productions and mixed and mastered by Stu Hunter at The Habitat Studios. It features Carl Dewhurst on slide and lead guitar, Mary Rapp on double bass and cello and Alexie Pigot on vocals. The track was written and independently produced by Ed Jackson.
"So Much More" is Ed Jackson’s 13th studio release and follows his debut EP "For a While" (2017) and recent singles "Windswept" (2019) and "Let You Go" (2019). Ed is a regular fixture on the Sydney live music scene, and his music has received radio airplay around Australia. Ed likes to think he is the great nephew of American queen of rockabilly Wanda Jackson.
Inspired by the likes of wordsmith singer/songwriters such as Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Josh Pyke, Cat Stevens, The National, Bon Iver, Sixto Rodriguez and Jack Johnson, Ed is being recognised as an accomplished songwriter whose tracks are as authentic as they are catchy.
Teaming up with collaborators JP Vernon on bass (The Mighty Resonators) and creative producer Alexie Pigot (drums, guitar, keys) Ed’s debut 6-track E.P "For A While"was released in Feb 2017. Committed to songwriting and publishing, Ed released three new tracks in 2018 "Absent Angel, Slowly & Smile a Little More" and in 2019 Ed released the follow-up singles "Windswept and Let You Go".
Ed Jackson’s music is a fusion of heartfelt lyrics and upbeat melodies. His tracks feel light-hearted yet are emotionally resonant with grounded rich tones in the indie-folk tradition. His lyrical playfulness and mix of light and dark sentiments make him a stand out as one to watch in 2020. His songs represent the range of human emotion from love to sadness revealing personal moments via homespun folk, pop, blues& rock and now primarily country music.
