NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 31st, 2020) - Singer-songwriter, Jonathan Freeland releases new single I Left My Heart In Powder Springs available on all streaming platforms.
"The inspiration is pulled directly from my experience growing up in a small town in Georgia and not being able to wait to leave. I wasn't fond of being "southern" and didn't feel like I belonged in that type of scene, so I couldn't wait to leave the south," explains Jonathan. "It wasn't until college (in Pittsburgh) / moving to NYC that I realized how much I appreciated all that I had been immersed in during those years, and so this song is somewhat of a reflection on the idea of being able to appreciate that and not being in such a hurry to "escape" everything that doesn't seem perfect at face value."
Growing up just outside of Atlanta, GA, Jonathan was raised on the sounds of classic country greats from Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, George Strait, and Charlie Daniels to the popular rock-influenced country radio artists of the 90s, Tim Mcgraw, Travis Tritt, and Garth Brooks. Whether it was long toss before the big game or hauling hay across the pasture, these songs were the soundtrack to his life long before he ever had the desire to pick up a guitar.
"HAD A LOT OF GOOD TIMES..."
With his infectious brand of country-twanged pop music, Jonathan Freeland is making a new mark in the industry as a multi-faceted performer, songwriter, and recording artist.
Growing up just outside of Atlanta, GA , Jonathan was raised on the sounds of classic country greats from Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, George Strait, and Charlie Daniels to the popular rock influenced country radio artists of the 90s, Tim Mcgraw, Travis Tritt, and Garth Brooks. Whether it was long toss before the big game or hauling hay across the pasture, these songs were the soundtrack to his life long before he ever had the desire to pick up a guitar.
Through his high school and college years, Jonathan headed various pop-punk bands as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, and after graduating with a degree in musical theatre and dance from Point Park University in 2013, he made the move to New York City to begin his career as an actor.
"THAT RED CLAY COUNTRY MUD LEFT IT'S MARK ON OUR HEARTS..."
Nearly a month later, Jonathan was cast in the National Tour of WEST SIDE STORY where he would travel across North America for the next 7 months. Upon returning to New York, he began demoing new songs, but never felt they were rooted in the stories he was yearning to tell.
It wasn't until the summer of 2015 that the opportunity to create the sound he had been chasing presented itself. After a brief conversation with Aaron Isaacson at Sound In Silence Recordings, he began working on his debut single, Summer of '10.
Combining Isaacson's pop-punk inspired composition & Freeland's nostalgic lyricism, Summer of '10 took off quickly online garnering nearly 500 Youtube views in the first week of the release as well as a consistent stream of Spotify and iTunes sales.
"LEAVING TIME IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR..."
Shortly after the release, Jonathan found himself working steadily again as an actor, traveling from contracts in New Hampshire, San Diego, Fort Meyers, and back to New York performing in and choreographing a number of prolific musical theatre productions (WEST SIDE STORY, SHOWBOAT, THE PIANO MEN, & CAROUSEL, & Million Dollar Quartet) all in the span of a year.
Jonathan's debut EP, Young & Proud, is now available on all major online retailers.
